Cary Ginell’s latest discography is an invaluable reference as it is a full listing of Columbia’s famous 15000-D series, which featured “hillbilly” artists like Vernon Dalhart, Darby and Tarlton, Clayton McMichen and many others.
A unique feature of the book is that the sales for each disc are shown, making it an indispensable reference, alongside Tony Russell’s opus magnum discography of country records from 1921 to 1942, and “Country Music Sources: A Biblio-Discography Of Commercially Recorded Traditional Music”, as Norm Cohen points out in the introduction.
There are useful cross references, descriptive notes and label scans, all of which contribute to the book’s usefulness and interest.Personally, I found it especially helpful for comparing sales for particular discs in the United States with those in Australia.
